Here in South Denver, it’s been a scorcher of a summer! If you’re a recent visitor or transplant to the Denver area, you may have assumed that our summer weather was milder than most. While we haven’t experienced the same record highs in other states such as Arizona or Nevada, newer residents may be surprised by the dry, scorching heat and unrelenting sun that have been so prevalent during our current summer season. While we don’t have an ocean within a reasonable driving distance of Denver, the towns and resorts located in the nearby Rocky Mountains provide a wonderful opportunity to escape the heat. If you don’t have the time, the transportation or the inclination to venture west on I-70, there are still many great ways to escape the heat in the South Metro Denver area!
South Suburban Parks and Recreation
The South Suburban Parks and Recreation District (SSPRD) is an organization that maintains recreational facilities and provides programs and amenities to six communities and three counties in the South Metro Denver area. The SSPRD operates facilities with indoor pools and outdoor pools, two ice arenas and six recreational centers that provide a myriad of ways to exercise, play and relax, indoors and away from the heat!
If you don’t live within the District, you can still access the SSPRD facilities, but District residents have access to discounted admission rates! To learn more about the SSPRD and its facilities, visit SSPRD.org.
